I promised myself I would finish all the work I already have on the needles or the hook. You know the feeling when you are surrounded by half finished projects and can’t focus on any of them long enough? Yep, I have it too. And I cast on a new shawl today.. The excuse is that I have a gorgeous new brown trilby hat and absolutely no scarf it goes with.
Three balls of Adriafil Knitcol 100% merino DK jumped recently into my online shopping basket. I was just browsing and I’m not entirely sure what happened – the next thing I know the postman brings a package full of delicious goodies. I loved it when it arrived – I got two colourways and the one I’m working with now is Gauguin Fancy, no. 47. It’s absolutely gorgeous, softly spun, no knots, rich vibrant colours.
This colourway is full of saturated autumnal tones. It’s a mix of mustardy yellow, mauve, pea green, turquoise and navy. I love these colours together but I wasn’t sure how the self striping yarn was working in stocking stitch. Variegated and self striping yarns can be funny and look much better in a hank or ball than knitted up. I started looking for a way to make the yarn mix and blend more, creating unique colour pools as the shawl was growing and the rows were getting longer. Here is work in progress – I absolutely love how it’s working out. My lovely assistant photobombing the picture is Little Bird, 10 months, always full of hugs and mischief. Loves sleeping in my arms, so this is how we spend an hour or two every evening.
